CARE & FINISHING OF POLY-CLASSICŪ FIBERGLASS COLUMNS

  1. Measure the exact floor to ceiling height using a plumb bob to insure accuracy.
  2. Cut the bottom of the column shaft as needed to achieve the measurement taken in step 1. Use an abrasive blade. Caution: Because only the shaft is load bearing, its top and bottom edges must be level to achieve full, even contact between load surfaces and shaft. Use rasp to level as required.

  3. NOTE: Top of shaft must not be cut so that it falls below upper cap surface when cap is finally positioned on shaft.
  4. Install column and cap & base per manufacturer's instructions.
  5. To paint columns, prepare by sanding lightly with 120 grit or finer wet/dry sandpaper. Remove all dust and dirt before painting by wiping columns with mineral spirits. Use a high quality acrylic latex paint.
  6. Columns may be split to cover posts, etc. using an abrasive carborundum blade. To rejoin halves, use fiberglass repair kit and waterproof construction adhesive on all joint surfaces. Clamp or tape halves tightly together and allow to properly cure. Remove excess joining materials promptly. Finish as indicated above.

  7. NOTE: Split columns are not load bearing.
